AM:What would you say has been your most significant achievement as a writer?

TD: My most significant achievement is the completion of my first book. While the publishing of it was great and all, the actual writing of the last page was beyond words. It was like the end of a soul-searching journey.

I was overcome with emotion and after that, a sense of happiness in knowing what I was destined to do with my life. I found what makes sense to me in this life and it begins and ends with writing.

CB: What was your motivation in writing "Existing the Moments"? And what do you hope your readers will experience when reading this novel?

TD: I believe the world and all the people in it to be one big paradoxical dichotomy of comedic and tragic irony, idealism and cynicism sharing a stage, happiness and sadness looming overhead, subjectivity and objectivity dancing in the same space. The world is illogical. Life itself is a path of inconsistencies that we can’t plan for, so people find ways to cope, to hide, to hope, even. In the end it’s our intricate stories that keep us perpetuating as individuals, which I find most beautiful in its uniqueness and self-affirming quality. Existing the Moments is a story of dichotomies...

MM: Was there one certain event or happening that made you want to write a book?

TD: I jumped on a plane with a one-way ticket to California, a couple backpacks and enough cash to last a month. I left the one person I loved the very most in life behind to explore life on my own…the toughest decision ever. Lots of pain, apprehension, and excitement. All the feelings presented themselves to me at once and so one fine summer day I sat on the floor of my Huntington Beach apartment with my keyboard in my lap and a swirl of emotion, and began creating Existing the Moments. It was really special and although it would have been more comfortable had I owned a desk, I wouldn’t change that bit of history for anything!
